Hot Cocoa Recipe
This recipe was adapted by John Lahr on 11/24/2006 from one attributed to “Marcia Metzger from Hudson,” who was inspired by the movie, "Chocolat".

Ingredients

bullet2cup whole milk
bullet1 ounce bittersweet chocolate, broken into pieces
bulletIf you grind up the chocolate in a Cuisinart, then  add 3 tablespoons.
bullet2 tablespoons sugar
bullet2 teaspoons natural cocoa powder
bullet1 teaspoon dutched cocoa powder
bullet1/8 teaspoon good-quality chili powder
bullet1/8 teaspoon ceylon cinnamon
bullet1 generous dash finely ground black pepper

Preparation Instructions

Combine milk, bittersweet chocolate, and sugar in a one-quart glass measuring bowl.  Heat in microwave for about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally until the chocolate melts.  Add cocoa powders, chili powder, cinnamon and pepper.  Heat for about 1 more minute; boil but don’t boil over!  Pour into mugs, and enjoy!
