In this lesson students are challenged them to build "water towers" with the
following very limited materials:
Pieces of manila folder:
6 1/2-inch wide by 11 3/4-inch long strips
4 1-inch wide by 11 3/4-inch long strips
4 3x3-inch squares
Scotch tape:
36-inch long piece
Steel nuts:
4 3/8x20 steel nuts (fairly large, I'm guessing on the size)
The nuts had to be supported at least 9-inches above the shake table platform. At first I thought that the task was impossible,
but the students came up with a lot of good designs and almost all passed the shake tests.
